Why is it important to hire a professional singer to perform at a funeral? |

Singing at a funeral or memorial service is a specialised area of performance. It is undeniably difficult not to get emotionally involved in the service and when you do so, the first thing that tightens is the voice. If you hire someone who does not have the experience and vocal technique to deal with it, you could find yourself with a singer who simply cannot sing. |

I couldn't do what I do without feeling emotionally connected to those who are grieving, but at that moment in the service, it's not about my emotions. It's about you, and serving you! |

Where are you based and how far do you travel? |

I am based in Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire and am able to travel all over the UK. |

Do I book you directly or can I give your details to our funeral director? |

I am happy for you to book me directly but sometimes it is easier to give my details to your ap0pointed funeral director. It takes the pressure of you at this emotional time. I would always ensure that you have my contact details and be on hand to discuss song choices and any requirements you have. |

You're used to singing with orchestras and doing high profile work. Why work as a funeral singer? |

I have always used my voice and my music to connect with an audience. I guess I have a natural empathy and ability to connect with people. My late father always taught me to "give back" and it gives me such pleasure to do so. Nothing makes me smile more than singing at the local retirement home, to spend time with people. It makes me feel so grateful for everything I have in my life. It's a gift to use my voice in this way. |

Whilst I was trained classically, I will gladly step back here and hand the reigns over to a small selection of colleagues I work with on a regular basis, some of the UK's foremost classical artists, all of whom have worked for leading opera companies worldwide. What do you wear for the service? |

I will discuss your needs with you or your funeral director and dress according to the occasion. Some families have a strict "black" dress code whilst others ask that I wear bright colours. Whatever your dress code, I will dress appropriately and be well presented. |
